RugbyWA

It has been a tough month for the Emirates Western Force, with the side winning one of its past four encounters to fall to ninth on the Investec Super 14 ladder.

In good news for the club, several players have re-signed in the past few weeks, with more expected to follow suit soon.

In local rugby news, the Senior Competition sponsored by KWIK Transport & Crane Hire is off and running again. Judging by the first month of First Grade it seems that Kalamunda, Rockingham, Perth Bayswater and Nedlands will be the teams to beat in 2008.

Qantas to allow inflight text and email.Qantas to allow inflight text and email

Qantas will allow passengers on domestic flights to send and receive texts and emails before the end of the year following “overwhelming” demand.

Qantas has been working on a system with AeroMobile since April 2007. “An overwhelming majority of passengers involved in the evaluation indicated they wanted access to in-flight connectivity on an ongoing basis.” said Executive General Manager John Borghetti.

The technology will be installed on a number of domestic B767-300 and A330-200 aircraft. Emirates have also launched the service.

Your Carbon Footprint

Your Carbon FootprintAccor Trials Green Scheme

Accor Hotels is trialing a consumer scheme which is looking to better communicate environmental messages to guests and to educate its staff on the benefits of energy saving measures.

The hotel group is in a global testing phase of the project called Green Shield with the training of housekeeping staff a central theme.

New messages in rooms will also be updated with the standard “please re-use your towels” replaced with harder hitting messages highlighting the tangible benefits of the positive action.

Accor is aiming to achieve a five per cent re-use of towels across the networks which it has estimated will save $4.8 million, the equivalent of 5.8 million trees planted.

The results will be announced on April 22, Accor’s annual Earth Guest Day where is concentrates its efforts on green projects. ‘The key to Green Shield is educating housekeeping staff, rather than just the guests, because there is no point asking guests to help out if the housekeeper just brings new towels anyway.” McGrath said.

Seven Australian hotels are trialing Green Shield including the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney and Mecure Brisbane and Perth.

Booking online VS Using a Corporate Travel Agency!Booking online VS Using a Corporate Travel Agency

Airfares booked last year through corporate travel agencies cost on average $56 less than identical itineraries directly booked through airline Web sites or through online travel retailers like Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity, according to Topaz International research released last week.

Topaz said travel agency fares were less costly on nearly 95 percent of itineraries compared with the same itinerary available online to the public. However, Topaz said its research shows the savings gap has closed steadily since it initiated the research in 2001, when the chasm between online public fares and agency fares averaged $171. Though the $56 differential recorded in 2007 matches the lowest gap in 2005, corporate travel agencies have grown slightly in lower-fare reliability: Topaz said agency fares in 2001 were cheaper just over 93 percent of the time, a figure that since grew steadily to last year's 94.85 percent.

"These studies continue to show that while the differences are less than in the past, they still exist and it should be the goal of all leaders to have processes in place to locate and book the lowest alternatives and validate that their service providers are giving the levels of contracted offerings that have been agreed to," Topaz International president and CEO Bradley Seitz said in a statement.

Topaz International provides strategic support to the corporate travel management professional.

If you’re not currently using the services of a corporate travel agent call now 1800 999 733 and find out what Globetrotter can do for you.
